Schools

I will have the most up to date information in about a month. Right now this is what I know of. Again, this information is from the "PCS guide to CRC" which is available in my link section.

Non-command sponsored (NCS) spouses bringing their children to Korea have three basic schooling options:
DOD SCHOOLS (YONGSAN) NCS families are put on a waiting list for spaces in these schools and the wait can be very long. Even if a child gets into a school at Yongsan, the commute can be very long. For example, from Camp Casey, the ride is over two hours each way. Although military buses do travel to and from some posts to Yongsan, they often do not run at convenient times and children must take the Korean bus system. Families using the DOD schools in Korea report that the quality of education is high, but do not count on getting in if you are non-command sponsored.
PRIVATE ENGLISH SPEAKING SCHOOLS
There are several of these schools in USAG-Red Cloud. Two of them, are located in Dongduchon (TDC), right outside Camp Casey. Dongduchon American Community School at telephone 031-866-0836 or DACS 7@hotmail.com and Shalom House (Home Schooling).
Approximately 45 minutes south of TDC is Uijongbu; the city surrounding Camp Red Cloud. Here you will find the International Christian School (ICS). The annual tuition for grades K through 5 is ap-proximately $6,500 while middle and high school will cost about $7,400. The ICS can be reached at telephone 031-855-1277 or at www.ics-ujb.org.
HOME SCHOOLING If you are interested in home schooling your children, you should get information before you leave the States from your local board of education. Failing to learn the proper procedures and curriculum for home schooling may result in your child's education falling behind by a year. Many families how-ever, are happy and successfully home schooling in Korea.

There is a new DOD school opening up this August in Camp Casey.
For homeschooling I highly recommend Calvert Home School .

  2. There are no schools on CRC. CRC is tiny, and actually only about a mile around the perimeter. I hope this helps.

  3. So did you you choose to home school your kids while at CRC? I'm moving there very soon and would love some input about the school if you have it or about your experience home schooling if that is what you did. If you home schooled were there any co-op's or groups of other home schoolers that got together to do things? If not do you feel like there were enough home schoolers at CRC to create a group? Anyone that has information to share I'm dying to listen so please contact me at crc.homeschool@yahoo.com

  4. We homeschooled prior to moving to Korea. There seems to be a lot of homeschoolers. Before I left the only organized homeschool group was meeting in Seoul. I am sure if you put something up in the Pear Blossom Cottage you would get interest from other homeschoolers. Good luck.
