Travel Claims

D Det., 176th Financial Management Company is experiencing technical difficulties with the Integrated Automated Travel System that is delaying the processing of travel settlements. They are working to resolve the issue to bring the system back online, but don’t have an estimated timeline for processing PCS and TDY travel settlements that have been submitted. Military pay system transactions such as hardship duty pay, cost of living allowance, housing allowances and family separation allowance have been processed and will be
reflected on the end of month leave and earnings statement.

Currency Exchange

There are a couple of options for money exchange.
First, you have ATM's on post from which you can withdraw either dollars or Won.
There is also the Community Banks on post. However, their exchange rate (they run the ATM's) is not as good as out in town. This is not a big deal for small amounts of cash, but when you are talking about enough to pay your monthly rent, it is advisable to go out in town.
At CRC, there is a money exchange located directly out the main gate. You cross the street, proceed down the street directly across the gate, and it is on your left about 1/2 block down. It is very easy to find with big signs in English.
While exchange rates vary, when I checked last week, the official exchange rate was 1180W = $1. Of course, you won't get this rate because banks have to make their money on the service. At this time Community Bank offered a rate of 1120W = $1. The money exchange in town offered 1150 = $1.
It's up to you where you choose to go. I just wanted you to be aware that it isn't the same every place you go.

Pennies ... Leave Home Without Them

Okay now. This is an odd post. Don't bring pennies to South Korea. They will do you no good. Seriously no one takes them! Cash them in at home or donate them! All US posts will either round up or round down to the nearest nickle. Even you have have pennies that add up to that amount it won't matter they DON'T accept them! If you have a nice penny collection you can bring them to look at or put them in storage.

This information was found on the 2ID web page.

COLA

You will qualify for COLA. To check your current rate, which will change based on the WON, go to this link. COLA is set up to help off set the extra expenses you have living over seas.

OHA

This is an idea of what your OHA will be like. This is just a guideline so you have an idea of what you will be getting. Finance will help you with the actual amounts. You can also go to this OHA calculator.

Allowances (Effective: 20100101)

OHA Rental Allowance
1880000.00 SOUTH KOREAN WON = $ 1723.63

Utility/Recurring Maintenance/Misc. Allowance
740498.00 SOUTH KOREAN WON = $ 678.91

Move In Housing Allowance (MIHA)
393704.00 SOUTH KOREAN WON = $ 360.96

The MIHA is a one time allowance for expenses incurred while setting up your apartment. For instance we had to have a washer and dryer hooked up in our apartment. This amount more than covered it. The rest of the money I used to purchase curtain rods.

The Utility allowance is for you to use to pay for your utility bills. If your bills exceed the amount you're allotted then you will have to pay out of pocket for the difference. However, if your utility bill is lower then you can just keep the extra.

The rent allowance is simple. The rent goes directly to the landlord. You don't keep any difference.
